Comment to FDA Approved?

In my colleagues blog ,which you can view here, http://americanpledge.blogspot.com/2008/04/fda-approved.html, some very good points are made! It is stated in this blog we need to be more careful with what we are eating and I could not agree more! Unfortunanetly I believe we can not trust the FDA. They are approving substances that are very dangerous to our health. In this blog there is a comment on aspartame which is known to cause health problems yet we are still consuming it. I ahve always wondered why so many substances are appproved that re known to cause health problems. Of course my assumption always goes straight to money. There is some profit in it and that is the American way. Ciggaretes are a good example of this. I know you do not eat them but they do go into your body. They are nothing but detrimental to your health yet they are approved for sale. Our own species poisoning us. Really the only way to get change is to stop buying the products!

Should We Use Our Oil Reserves?

I ran across an article in the Austin American Statesman stating that the Department of energy purchases 70,000 barrels per day for a reserve, which now has 700 million barrels. It is said that because of the cost of this the taxpayers cost is going up.

To be honest I had no idea we had such a large amount of oil on reserve. I understand that we need to have preparation in case of an emergency but we need to focus more of our resources on alternative fuels. The question we should consider as well is why are we not investing in alternative fuels? We are in an incredible position of advancement when it comes to alternative fuels. We have the science, technology and intelligence to implement less dependency on oil. If we take half the money we spend on oil reserves and put it towards alternative energy options, it is highly possible they will become more affordable.

I do agree with the fact that we do need to somehow find balance when it comes to the cost of oil especially when we have so much on reserve. To read more on this subject: http://www.statesman.com/news/content/shared/news/stories/2008/04/OIL_RESERVE25_AUS.html

comment to Lose Your Delusions

I could not agree with this post more! We are in a state of fear. Whether people want to believe it or not that is just where they want us. By having us in this state of fear they can manipulate us easily. I do not put all the blame on George Bush he could not do all this alone. We have continously let them take away more and more of our rights. When it comes to the airport it is very much discrimination. How do they decide who looks the most suspicious, by discriminating! I know of plenty of citizens of this country who have felt this discrimination. We all need to take a closer look at the big picture and see what the truth really is instead of just taking everything at face value.

We Need a Change

Why is it that every election we tend to see the best candidate as a wasted vote? Unfortunately, Ron Paul has somehow fallen into that category. We saw it with Ralph Nader as well. When I look around Austin I see more Ron Paul posters than for any other candidate. Why is it that he is losing? Are our votes not being counted correctly, we will most likely never know. Are the supporters of other candidates less vocal and therefore we see less signs of their voting preference.

This years election is an extremely important one. The past two elections we have made some poor voting choices and now we are faced with those consequences. The Patriot Act is one of the toughest ones to swallow. How can we as citizens sit back and allow them to take our rights away more and more everyday? Under The Patriot Act the government is actually allowed to come onto your property and seize you or your property without question. How is that freedom? We need a candidate who is willing to take a long hard look at The Patriot Act and correct it! We need a candidate who is not afraid to have a voice and who will not be paid off by large corporations making him their puppet. That candidate is Ron Paul. He stays true to his principles and will not be swayed. Money does not dictate what will come out of his mouth. We need someone who cares about people and not just the rich ones in this country.

Ron Paul is a candidate who knows and honors the Constitution. As a homeschooling parent I can really appreciate this. It is my constitutional right to teach my child and he says he will honor that and all of our other constitutional rights. I urge each and everyone to become informed about what is really happening in our world today and base your vote on that. For me it is clear Ron Paul is are only hope. He is for the people! Questions Answered by the Democratic Parties

The Houston Chronicle decided to run an article with questions readers in Houston, San Antonio, and Beaumont had for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. I think it is great a great article. Having each candidates answers written out side to side to read and reread is extremely informative. The readers also had well thought out questions about issues that affect us all. How a candidate answers each question gives us a great deal of information on who they are.

Each candidate has well put answers but it all comes down to who answers with the most tact and clarity. The candidate who can answer a question and not get overly emotional and can show there passion while staying centered is the right choice in my opinion.

All questions and answers were excellent but one stood out to me, the one about ending our reliance on foreign sources of oil and how it can be done. That question is good because the answer not only effects the war but our environment as well which in my opinion should be high on our priority list. I really liked how Obama answered. He seems to not only say he is going to help but has solutions and helpful tips. In order to have a solution you have to have alternatives.

By reading this article it will help you understand each candidates stance. Even if you do not plan on voting Democratic this article would still be beneficial. We should understand both parties stance to really be able to vote clearly. With what is happening in our world today we should all be casting a vote for change. A Bronx School is Reformed

A Bronx junior high school has had a rough existence until Shimon Waronker became the principal. In just two short years the school had seen six principals come through its doors when finely they got a seventh who was determined to help these kids. This school had a long history of gang violence with numerous people being hurt and threatened on a daily basis at the time.

Shimon Waronker is a member of the Chabad-Lubavitch sect of Hasadic Judasim as well as being a Latino. Many warned that Mr. Waronker was a cultural mismatch for a mostly minority school, but he has persevered. Not only has he stuck in there, he has also made huge changes to the school. The school now has an A on its new school report card, the school is no longer on the city's 12 most angerous schools, and attendance has risen to 93 percent. Mr. Waronker found ways to connect with the kids. One major way was his Latino background and that he was able to speak spanish.

From watching the video linked to the article and reading the article, I believe he went into this school with a positive attitude really looking for the good in these kids and expecting them to show it. When these kids did not live up to their potential he showed them he cared by giving them consequences. He also shows he cares by teaching leadership classes encouraging the kids to be their best. Most children and people just need someone who believes in them for them to bring their best to the table. He also stays connected to the teachers and helps them perform at their best.

Our schools should be on our top priority list in this country but sadly they are not. Our children spend more waking hours at school then they do at home. With that being said the largest influence for them comes from the school. We need more people who are involved in the students life. We need leaders and people willing to listen to our students and Mr. Waronker seems to be doing just that. You can find this article at: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/08/nyregion/08principal.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
